2005

Piece of brown cardboard with a circle containing the date 2005, around which the numbers 6 to 30 and 31 to 52 run around.

There's something just nice about the graphic / layout of this. At a glance it almost looks to incorporate kanji or kana symbols that I'm a fan of pairing with Latin script.

It's just a manufacturing/production date stamp system though. Like pallet markings that I'm also a fan of. Or, a more subtle version of the bread bag ties that I list in my conceptual inspiration for this site.

It's not meant to be noticed by anyone other than the people in the factory that made it. To that end, I believe it's missing an arrow that should be pointing at which month of 2005 it was made in.

Irrespective of its particular effectiveness, I liked and kept this because of its niche and special use. A type of fully functional design where aesthetics are just emergent, and not at all intended in the original requirements. There's an honesty to practical design like this that inspires me. It gets to the point, gets the job done, and looks good as a product of that utility.

Except as I say, this one looks like it didn't quite get its job done. Still looks good though.
