Nice

I was lucky enough to work closely with It’s Nice That, not long after they started up, and over the years collected a whole load of lovely print work and publications. I think some of the little ones like this are among my favourites though.
All their output is about other people. The truest example of being champions of creativity that I’ve ever seen in the design industry. Little postcards like this in particular then were such lovely chances to discover new work, and appreciate people that you’d probably not find otherwise. Lovely stuff. The epitome of nice.
I wish more orgs would use their large platforms to promote the work of smaller scale creatives.
Illustration by Jochen Gerner, jochengerner.com. I always wondered if Jochen had a narrative behind this piece. Or if it was just a funny composition that came to their mind. Personally, I can’t help but wonder if the two little people are twins, and if they crawled into the pipes, or perhaps up and out of them, from inside some labyrinthine underground bunker like in Silo.
I’d love to see such a minimal and graphic style of illustration like this being animated. I can imagine each scene beginning with a curious composition of shapes, which suddenly come to scale and feel relatable when they’re interacted with by large or tiny characters.
